Post How-To setup a dedicated server
Hello all, just thought that i'd post this up to help all those of you that want to start their own dedicated server.

Follow Freeman works best using a dedicated server, even on the LAN because of the amount of CPU load that is happening e.g. lots of stuff going on in the game compared to other multiplayer games.

First you need to have the Source Dedicated Server for this to work.

1 ) in STEAM go to the tools tab in games and make sure you have the Source Dedicated Server, if you don't, double click on it and steam will install it

Image

2 ) download the HL2coop_Server_Setup.exe

Main link: http://mercilessdevelopment.com/downloads2.html

3 ) install and follow the instructions up to where it asks you where you want it to be installed.

4 ) make sure the path is some like Steam\SteamApps\username\source dedicated server\HL2coop

Image

5 ) restart steam if its still running

6 ) in STEAM again go to games, your tool tab and double click on Source Dedicated Server

Image

7 ) on the first tab change it to HL2:Coop "follow freeman" and make sure its on INTERNET for network, then set-up the rest to your fancy

ALWAYS START YOUR SERVER IN THE READYROOM
(if you dont, the game will not work properly)

Image

8 ) start the server and watch it fill up

Elimination mode is ON (means if you die your out and have to spectate)
so type in "cl_elimination_mode 0" to turn it off (noticed people talking about that one)

oh and to join the server, go to you LAN tab in servers and you should see your server.

Finally just to add that this should work with any new releases and spread the word!!!!!

*Update* the new beta 2 does not us an installer so you'll have to manually install it. Instructions are provided on the README file that comes with beta 2.

Post Standalone source dedicated server
If you want to install Source Dedicated Server without Steam installed, you can use hldsupdatetool..

1) download hldsupdatetool from http://storefront.steampowered.com/down ... tetool.exe

2) after installed, you need to download all your dedicated server files. On command prompt (or start-> run) type:
<path where you installed HLServer>hldsupdatetool -command update -game hl2mp -dir <path where you want to install the server>
For example:
C:\Valve\HLServer\hldsupdatetool -command update -game hl2mp -dir C:\Valve\HLServer\hl2ds
This will install Half Life 2 Deathmatch dedicated server in C:\Valve\HLServer\hl2ds folder

3)Install HL2coop_Server_Setup.exe on the hl2ds folder (for example C:\Valve\HLServer\hl2ds)

4)Go inside hl2ds folder and doubleclick on srcds.exe file

5)Run the server ;)

.:CTU:. Milo , you have to work on the firewall_router and on your pc_os_firewall too .
http://www.whatsmyip.org/ , test the port of your pc if it is opened : 27015 default : http://www.whatsmyip.org/ports/ , this can be 27016 if you use srcds.exe and hl2.exe on pc server .

read http://portforward.com/help/portforwarding.htm , they help by routers and games : http://portforward.com/english/routers/ ... rindex.htm

check : sv_region and sv_lan in console of srcds.exe .

i think it will work like the steam one.. they are quite the same.. 1 is on steam games list, the other is detached from steam and works without it.. hldsupdatetools is useful if you have another pc and 1 steam account only.

performance is variable depending on your hardware specifications and your network connection :)

Yes, ok, thanks for your answer. But I can play e.g. Counter Strike Source with my account and run a server with my account on the same time^^
